A few commenters mentioned this in yesterday’s story, but this is the first major report I’ve seen about it. According to the New York Daily News, Gerard Butler may still have a problem with substance abuse. I know, how shocking. You’d think that three weeks of rehab followed by a complete re-entry into the booze-and-coke-soaked Hollywood scene would NEVER have been a trigger for Gerard’s addictions. I mean, just a few days after rehab, Gerard was swinging around post-Oscar parties, and he’s kept up the partying at various events since then. Still, this story is sad:
GERARD BUTLER hasn’t quit partying. Sources spotted the “300” actor at the Troubadour in West Hollywood Friday around 12:30 a.m. with “three young, hot blonds.” But it was Butler’s demeanor that had them looking twice.
An insider says Butler was “slurring his words” and “sweating profusely” while holding a glass of clear liquid with a lime as the rock band Crash Kings performed. A spokesman for Butler says “most of the details in this story are completely inaccurate.”
According to TMZ, the actor entered the Betty Ford Center in early February after deciding he had become too reliant on pain medication. He checked out three weeks later and was spotted at a number of late-night Oscar fetes, looking healthy and happy.

Speaking of his sex addiction (alleged), Radar had another story about Gerard’s married lady friend who is now getting a divorce because Scottish dong ruins everything. According to Radar, this woman was married before, and her first marriage ended after she had a torrid affair with Dave Navarro. Allegedly, Navarro was married to Carmen Electra at the time, so the affair ruined his marriage too. And this lady (Madame Antsy-Pants) didn’t learn anything from that experience either. Radar’s “source” (probably the woman herself) says her relationship with The Butler was “a very intense relationship. [She] had very strong feelings for Gerard, despite the fact that she was a newlywed at the time… They would exchange heated text messages, emails and phone calls. She would drop anything to be with Gerard. The two would hook-up at his hotel when he was in Los Angeles.”
Once again, I think this woman probably has issues, but I’m really starting to worry a bit about Gerry. Yes, my crush is pretty much over at this point. But that doesn’t mean I want to see him ruin his life, you know?

I too would hate to see him ruin his career and be another actor who threw away his life through booze, sex and drugs. But the douchey-ness is getting very strong. And when’s the last time someone called him a great actor?? Looks like its slipping away already. Sad.

Addictions are not pretty, and a sex addiction can be just as destructive as a foreign substance one. Hollywood has not been a good place for him. Better that he kept a home base in London or Scotland than Hollywood. Maybe he could have kept his head together…
I feel bad for him. He could have had a George Clooney type reputation in Hollywood, and instead he is going the other way. Most people would agree that Gerry is handsome, intelligent (I believe he has a law degree), talented, affable, etc. He should be emulating Clooney’s “bachelor” image. The fact that he can’t speaks volumes.

I feel bad for him. I first noticed him in Reign of Fire (I know . . . my hubby is into movies like that.) I didn’t know who he was, but he stood out to me. Also in Tomb Raider.
There was such a joy and sincerity in his acting. I recently saw Bounty Hunter. Maybe it would never have been a *great* movie, but it didn’t seem like he ever connected with the character.
Looking over the reports on him, it seems like at first, the womanizing reports were all just talk. People making up something to report on. Then in the past couple of years . . . I think he actually started living it.
It’s so sad. You can tell in interviews that he is a nice person, but I think he’s right at the precipice of the point of no return and becoming just one more tragedy of the Hollywood machine.

So Jerry went to rehab to dry out basically.
Someone convinced him he needed to dry out. But apparently not to get actually sober.
I suspect he was having limp dick syndrome and needed to dry out to perk it up again. So he dried out for 3 weeks. And got it bouncing again.
Problem fixed! 🙂

So basically, NONE of it is false, some is completely true, and the rest is just a bit off the mark, meaning it was 3 brunettes and not 3 blonds and he had a lemon wedge in his drink instead of lime. OK got it!
I’m shocked!!! Yeah, okay. I have a bachelor’s in Psychology and working on my Master’s in Addiction Psychology and counseling, and in the statistics for someone to complete treatment and never return to their addictive ways on the first run is 1 out of 3000 cases. Basically, it never happens and three weeks sure as hell is not enough.
Taking someone out of the environment for a period of time is just a band aid. You have reintroduce them slowly back into their lives and constantly, constantly, monitor them.
If you have ever watched Fat Chef on Cooking Channel, that is the most plausible way to work an addiction. First and foremost, because you teach people how to handle their problems in theier everyday life versus Heavy who takes them out of it for six months and then puts them back. Same complexity goes with substance abuse. Need I remind you of that chic named Lindsay. Oh Gawd, didn’t they hook up at one time!?
He needs a haircut, a shave and some serious psychological counseling. He looks like a scumbag even in a tux.

He was actually pretty good in Coriolanus, so I will say it is a complete waste to do this to himself. He does have potential. Room to improve, but still, room.

Before he became well known he used to say that he suffered from manic depression, maybe he’s self medicating with booze and sex.

He keeps to himself, didn’t marry and have children and get divorced. It said he went in for painkillers, not that he had a drinking problem. I had to wean myself off painkillers and several weeks were hell. He has a ton of nobodies who spread their legs for him at the drop of a hat, no courting necessary. It’s his life.

Considering he almost died making his last move, (the surf movie in Northern CA) maybe he’s just grateful to be alive. I also think he is tormenting himself because he fell in love with Jennifer Aniston and she moved in and on to something a little more stable and controllable. That’s my theory. It’s eating him up.
